Christmas Program

Bryce's school had a Christmas program a few weeks ago, and I finally got around to downloading the video. Bryce was the center of attention, of course...

Note his toe tapping in this one:

Merry Christmas!

Merry white Christmas! The last time Dallas had a white Christmas was in 1929. Amazing, huh?

SNOW!

Yes, that's right. I said the "s" word... Snow! Typical Texas weather. It was 77 degrees yesterday and 34 today. In the over 30 years I've lived in Texas, we've never had a white Christmas. Of course, because this is Texas, there's no guarantee the snow will actually stick around til tomorrow.

Christmas "fireworks"

Bryce has a Little People nativity set. When you push a button, the star lights up and it sings "Away in the Manger". Well, Bryce thought the star was fireworks! Even funnier, he said "Baby Jesus says 'ooh ahh' when he watches the fireworks!"

Christmas cookies!

Bryce, Aunt Beauty, and I baked and decorated Christmas cookies for Bryce's classmates. The dough was too soft and Bryce tried to eat every cookie and all the icing, but somehow we got it done! Thanks, Aunt "Booty" for your help! We definitely couldn't have done it without you!

Elf on the shelf

Bryce got an Elf on the Shelf this year. For those of you that haven't heard about this it's genius. The elf comes with a book that explains how he flies home each night to the north pole to tell Santa if you've been a good boy or not. Each morning the elf is in a different place in the house that the kid had to find. Ours is named Diego (as in Dora and Diego). If you have kids, get the elf!

Brr!

Winter came in with a bang this week. High in the 40s. We took Bryce to the Grapevine Parade of Lights last night. It was a typical parade with middle and high school bands, etc but he did get to see "Ho Ho" on the last float. We froze, but he saw Santa so that made his day!

Pastry chefs we are not!

But not bad for our first try! Bryce and I decorated our first gingerbread house this morning. He definitely ate more than he decorated, but we had great fun (a made a great mess!) doing it.

Big boy bedroom!

Bryce's big boy room is complete! He's had the new bed for about 6 weeks, and I finished his curtains this morning. They are Yankees pinstripes (of course) and are hung using baseball bats. He loves all things "big boy" now and refuses to have anything to do with baby stuff.

When Daddies Babysit

This belongs in one of those email strings about what happens when Dad is at home alone with the kids...

A few weeks ago, Alex picked Bryce up after school while I was still at work. He sat Bryce down to color with his markers and started unloading the dishwasher. (Yes, the dishwasher. My husband rocks!) Well, Bryce talks non-stop. Seriously, he talks all the time, and Alex admitted that he simply tuned Bryce out while unloading dishes. A few minutes later, he caught a few words of a song that Bryce was singing: "I color my foot. I color my foot."

Alex turned around and saw Bryce had his foot up on the table and was coloring his foot, just as he described in his song. Alex said "Bryce!" Well, Bryce turned around, and this is what Alex saw:

Apparently, the first verse of Bryce's song was "I color my face! I color my face!" Thank you, Crayola, for making washable markers!

Baby Kevin

I'm sure everyone knows by now that I'm pregnant - due at the end of February if you didn't. We are not finding out the sex of the baby, either. However, Bryce has decided that I am having a BOY... named KEVIN. Funny thing is, we don't know anyone named Kevin. There must be a Kevin at his school (although, not in his class).

The bad thing is that the name has stuck! We call it Baby Kevin, are working on Baby Kevin's room, etc. Bryce is going to be one disappointed and confused kid when the baby does get here... even if it's a boy, it won't be named Kevin. And if it's a girl, well, God help us.

Gigi is trying to get Bryce thinking outside the box. She always says to him, "Bryce, maybe it's a baby girl." "Would you like a baby sister?" "What are we going to name the baby if it's a girl?" etc etc. Bryce finally answered, "Gigi, it's not a girl. It's a BOY!" So, we are letting him think it's a boy named Kevin for the next few months. Who knows? Maybe he's half right!

"Me and Mommy have silver"

Bryce and Daddy had their haircut last week. When they got home, Bryce told me "Daddy has black hair. Me and Mommy have silver. But Daddy say 'No tell mommy her have silver hair!'" Too cute. Normally, I would be offended that he thinks I have silver hair, but in this case, he also thought HIS hair was silver, so I am vindicated. I can't tell you how many people (that know both Alex and I) say they can't believe Bryce is blonde. Genetics are a funny thing, my friend.

World's Worst Blogger

Yes, I admit... I'm the world's worst blogger. But, whenever I sit down to write, I get writer's block. So, today I'm going to crank out a couple of entries while I have ideas on my mind. First, the Derek Jeter Halloween costume. Can I tell you how cute his little butt was in those baseball pants?!

Happy Birthday, Bryce!

Wow, I can't believe you are 2 years old already! Happy Birthday, big boy!

By the way...

Bryce has been potty trained for a few weeks now. :) He is still having a couple accidents a week, but we're very close!

New Swingset!

Look what Daddy built Bryce! For those of you that know my husband, he did actually build the swingset - didn't outsource it!

Bryce had already made an enhancement request... He wants a steering wheel in the fort... a yellow steering wheel to be exact. As luck would have it, I found a yellow steering wheel online last night for only $14.95, so it'll be on there by the weekend. :)

Happy Mother's Day to me!

Alex and Bryce had their pictures taken together for my surprise gift! Check out my handsome boys! A girl shouldn't be this lucky...

My First Belt

We took Bryce to a wedding with us last weekend, so he had to dress up. (See previous post "No Girls Allowed" for details on how difficult it is to dress up a little boy.) Anyway, Bryce got his first belt to wear with his cute khakis and button down. Does he look 4 years old or what?

"Ball-Base"

Bryce's new favorite pastime is baseball, er, "ball-base". He actually has a pretty good swing! Of course, when he starts to tire of ball-base, the bat becomes a sword...

The Zoo!

We took Bryce to the zoo for the first time yesterday! He loved it! He especially loved the fact that he was able to walk most of the time (rather than the stroller) because he was wearing his monkey backpack. Yes, I know... it's a kid leash. But, frankly, it works really well, and I don't worry about him running off. Try it before you judge. :) Oh, and check out his new glasses!

Potty Training

We are starting to potty train. Actually, we've been working on it off and on for a few months. He's actually pretty good - he goes most times you put him on the potty - but it's hard to be consistent with school, etc. But, I'm starting to grow tired of the lackadaisical potty training, so we'll be doing boot camp soon. He's more than ready.

So, I will leave you with an adorable picture of little B's potty time... he loves to read magazines while on the pot!

Happy Birthday, Honey!

We went to dinner with friends, then headed over to the Glass Cactus for some drinks and dancing! The rockin 80s band was the perfect backdrop for Alex's 30-something celebration. I love you!

Pony Rides!

Happy Birthday, Allie! We had a great time at your party... more importantly, there were PONY RIDES! Bryce had a great time on the pony and with the animals in the petting zoo. Aside from one of the goats peeing on mommy's shoe, we had a lot of fun! :)

Fossil Rim Wildlife Park

Alex and I had almost 2 full weeks off over the holidays. We spent a lot of quality time with Bryce, and our favorite day was at the wildlife park. You know, that kind of place that you can drive through and feed the animals from the car. Bryce couldn't get enough of the animals, and 2 weeks later, he's still talking about it. (He also got to sit on my lap in the front seat during the drive through the park - another big hit.) I highly recommend it!

Christmas

Bryce had a great Christmas! He was still a little confused by the whole thing, but was much more participatory than last year. His favorite new toys:

Big Wheel at Gigi's

Firetruck (he can imitate the siren, too)

"Vroom Vroom" tricycle
