The Great Dilemma

I am in a state of turmoil right now. Bryce is eating baby food now, and I'm making it myself. (No, I'm not crazy - it's very easy and it tastes better than the jarred stuff.) Anyway, here's what he's had so far: sweet potatoes (favorite), butternut squash, yellow squash, apples, bananas, peaches, peas, green beans.

The problem is this: it's time for beans. And for those of you that know me, I HATE beans. Here's two little anticdotes to really hammer home that statement.
  1. Just yesterday at a Mexican food place for lunch, I asked, "Does the burrito have beans inside?" The response was "Uh, yeah, I think so." I replied, "I don't want beans anywhere on the plate. Not in the burrito, not on the side, not anywhere!"
  2. Luckily, my food was correct yesterday. However, if in fact I am delivered a plate with beans on it, I build a wall using the tortilla chips to keep the beans as quarantined as possible.

So now it's time to start Bryce on beans. And it pains me to do this, because I know first hand how offensive they can be! But, in an effort to raise a well rounded child, I am forging ahead. I've started with garbanzo beans (aka chickpeas). I like to think of it as baby hummus. And I do occasionally eat hummus, so I'm sort of ok with this. However, next week we will start on black beans... maybe Daddy will have to feed him those! Yuck.
