Alex and I are on the South Beach Diet. It's the first diet either one of us has ever been on... don't be a hater. It's not like we've never had any weight to lose - we just aren't that health conscious - until NOW. I had that nagging last 5 lbs of baby weight to lose, and Alex had put on a few pounds recently. The truth is, until we had kids, we NEVER would have bought half the stuff in our pantry. Seriously, the convenience food is out of control. South Beach Diet is also great to help you learn good carbs vs bad carbs, the glycemic index, and to make better food choices. We figure if we can find a few good recipes and tips, and incorporate those into our lives long term, we'll be in good shape (no pun intended!)
So, South Beach... Phase 1: I hate you. Phase 1 is no carb, low fat. Don't get me wrong - the meals I've fixed have been great. The problem is the lack of variety - meat and veg, meat and veg, always meat and veg. BUT I lost 6 lbs and Alex lost 7+ in 2 weeks. So, it's worth it.
We totally blew the diet on Easter weekend, but we are back on track now. Stay tuned for my assessment of Phase 2. This phase is more lenient in that we can add back fruit and some good carbs; however, that might prove more difficult to stick to - that ol' give an inch/take a mile thing.
